The integration of wearable technology and edge computing in the realm of eHealth has revolutionized the way we monitor and manage health and wellness. Wearable devices, from smartwatches to fitness trackers, empower users to collect real-time biometric data such as heart rate, activity levels, and sleep patterns, providing valuable insights into personal health. Coupled with edge computing, which processes data close to the source rather than relying solely on cloud-based systems, these eHealth solutions enhance responsiveness and improve data privacy. This synergy allows for immediate analysis and actionable feedback, facilitating proactive health management and timely interventions. As healthcare transitions towards a more personalized and data-driven approach, the fusion of wearables and edge computing exemplifies a significant leap forward, promising to enhance patient engagement, optimize resource utilization, and ultimately improve health outcomes in a more connected world.
Quoted: A person’s walk (or “gait”) is a process which involves a repetitious sequence of limb motion to move the body while simultaneously maintaining stability. Gait analysis provides a method to characterize this process. Sensing from foot, important information about human gait, postures of activities, and walking trajectory could be obtained, which could contribute to applications such as healthcare, worker safety, and indoor localization. In this research, an innovative wearable system—Wearable Gait Lab was designed to extract gait, balance, and body posture out of plantar pressure and foot motion from real-time streaming sensor data, enable objective identification of risk factors throughout the day and during a variety of natural activities.
eHealth Integrations
My contributions with the Case Sensing and Interactions Lab (SAIL) to this amazing project includes integration of best practice connectivity for such embedded systems and data integration for end-user apps and cloud analytics.
